Blue Beetle with Weapon

In Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes, who just graduated from college, returns home with big plans for the future. When he arrives, he finds things aren’t quite the same as when he left; as Jaime searches for his place in the world, fate steps in when he finds himself possessing the Scarab, an ancient piece of alien biotechnology.

When the Scarab chooses Jaime out of the blue to be its symbiotic host, it gives him an amazing suit of armor that gives him strange and unpredictable powers. This changes his life forever, and he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle. In a movie directed by Angel Manuel Solo, Xolo Mariduea plays Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle.

Susan Sarandon will play Victoria Kord, Bruna Marquezine will play Jenny, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carillo, and Damián Alcázar will play Jaime’s family members, and Harvey Guillen will play a role that we don’t know about yet. Blue Beetle is scheduled to appear in theaters only on Friday, August 18th.

Earlier this year, Gunn and Safran announced that Superman: Legacy, The Brave, and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, and The Authority would be the first films produced by DC Studios under the “Gods and Monsters” banner.

Included are the animated Creature Commandos series and the HBO Max shows Waller, Booster Gold, Lanterns, and Paradise Lost. James Gunn may have dropped a hint that Mariduea will reprise his role as Jaime when he called him the “first hero” in the new DC Universe during an appearance on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast.
