What’s New in the World of Coin and Sneaker Collecting?
A Rare Canadian/New Zealand Error Coin:

Last week in Wellington, there was quite a surprise at an auction. They had a coin that had a bit of a mix-up, with one side being Canadian and the other New Zealand. Despite all expectations, it fetched a whopping $60,000.
The auctioneer, David Galt, who runs Mowbray Collectables in Ōtaki, couldn’t believe it.
He mentioned that this sale price was seven times what they had initially estimated, setting a record for the highest price a Kiwi coin has ever gone for in New Zealand.
What makes it even more fascinating is that there are only 11 of these coins left in the entire world, making it a truly rare find.
This particular coin also holds the distinction of being the most valuable one that Mowbray’s has ever sold.
And that’s not all. At the same auction, they had another unique item – a New Zealand halfpenny coin with a rather unusual twist. Instead of English, it had Latin wording.
Surprisingly, it went for double its estimated price, selling for a cool $19,000.
David Galt, who also happens to be the president of the New Zealand Royal Numismatic Society, noted that this international coin auction attracted significant interest from overseas buyers, with online bidding becoming increasingly popular in recent years, especially since the onset of the Covid pandemic.
