An 1899 double eagle, certified by CAC and graded PF-67 Ultra Cameo by Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), is set to be one of the standout highlights at Heritage Auctions’ U.S. Coins Signature Auction during the Long Beach Expo, scheduled for September 14-17.
Rare 1899 Double Eagle Star Coin PF-67:

This auction will boast an exceptional array of coins, and this Liberty Head double eagle is as captivating as they come, according to Todd Imhof, the Executive Vice President at Heritage Auctions. These coins were scarce, with only 84 originally minted, and today, there are approximately 30 surviving examples.

Among them, this particular coin boasts the highest grade of any survivor, even surpassing the one on display at the Smithsonian Institution. The kind of extraordinary coin instantly becomes any collection’s centerpiece, demanding its spotlight.

This remarkable coin holds a prestigious position among rare numismatic treasures. According to Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) Coinfacts, 32 surviving examples in all grades, with a mere 10 in Gem condition or better.
Only one Cameo coin is graded at PF-66. Among the three PF-67 Ultra Cameo coins graded by NGC, this coin being offered is the highest-rated by NGC, with none achieving a higher NGC grade.
