Today, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) launched a Lee Kuan Yew $10 coin issuance to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew (LKY100). The coin pays tribute to his strategic vision, boldness, and indomitable spirit that transformed Singapore from a regional trading port to a global manufacturing, business, and financial hub, creating opportunities for all Singaporeans.
Lee Kuan Yew Coin Design:
The aluminum bronze used to strike the LKY100 coin gives it a golden hue. Compared to the current Third Series coins in circulation, its diameter of 30mm is significantly larger. The design centers on a portrait of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, with the Marina Barrage in the foreground to symbolize Mr. Lee’s vision to construct a freshwater reservoir in the city, thereby increasing Singapore’s water resilience.

Raffles Place’s skyscrapers can be seen in the distance, along with the Fullerton Hotel (the former Fullerton Building/General Post Office) and National Gallery Singapore (the former Supreme Court and City Hall), both of which have played important roles in Singapore’s history. Below the Singapore Coat of Arms on the reverse side of the coin is a dual latent image depicting Mr. Lee’s birth year (1923) from one perspective and his 100th birthday (2023) from the other. Mr. Weng Ziyan, a local artist, created the design for the LKY100 coin.
