Werewolf by Night, Marvel Studios’ first feature-length “special presentation” inspired by the classic monster films of the 1930s and 1940s, premiered last year but did not receive a Funko Pop release. Michael Giacchino, a regular composer for Marvel films (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Thor: Love and Thunder), makes his directorial debut with Werewolf by Night, a supernatural thriller that introduces the monster Man-Thing, the undead Ulysses Bloodstone, and his (alive) monster-hunter daughter, Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly). It “felt like a fun way to introduce the Werewolf by Night character, the concept of monsters in the MCU, but do it so there’s just a tease,” said co-executive producer Brian Gay of the nearly hour-long special.
Now that you’re interested, let’s see where your enthusiasm takes us for the simple reason that the special reveals that monsters have existed for centuries. So consider this a sample. For the first time, the veil has been lifted. Disney’s synopsis for Werewolf by Night reads as follows: “On a dark and somber night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader.”
A mysterious and macabre memorial to the leader’s life thrusts the attendees into a hunt for a powerful relic, bringing them face to face with a terrifying monster. The chilling special draws inspiration from classic horror movies of the 1930s and 1940s and aims to create a sense of dread and the macabre while providing plenty of suspense and scares as we explore a new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
