Collecting supplies do not need to be expensive. Spend first on protection and organisation, then add inspection or display equipment when the collection justifies it.
Starter budget
Start with sleeves or basic holders, labels, and a simple inventory. For cards already using rigid holders, a toploader binder is more useful than decorative equipment first.
Mid-range practical setup
Add a dedicated inspection tool and better storage. Coin collectors may prefer an illuminated 10X loupe for portable checks. At a desk, a USB microscope with a stand may be more practical.
Display-focused setup
An acrylic display case can work for a selected group, but check measurements, dust protection, and placement away from harsh sunlight.
Where not to spend first
- Decorative storage before basic protection.
- High-magnification claims that do not improve focus or stability.
- Bulk supplies that do not match the collection’s sizes.
