It would be impossible for even the most dedicated Funko Pop collector to acquire every figure ever produced. The rate at which Funko releases new designs is impossible to keep up with, and by 2023 there will have been over 20,000 unique Pops released. Since there is so much content in the Pokemon franchise, focusing on a single series is a good strategy if you’re looking to maximize the enjoyment you get from your collection.
While not every Pokemon has its own Funko Pops toy yet, there are already a lot of them to choose from, and there are officially more than a thousand of them. Focusing on a small portion of such a constantly expanding collection can be challenging. Whether you’re just starting with Pokemon Pops or looking to add to your collection, we’ve selected a few of our favorites that we think will appeal to any Pokemon Pops fan.
Best Pokemon Funko Pops to Collect:
Mew
The existence of Mew was initially a big question mark in the anime series. A perfect example of a legendary Pokemon. When the Pokedex entry for Mew appeared after that of Mewtwo, my friends and I were stumped. All the fuss over the debut of the first film, complete with free Ancient Mew cards for those who showed up. A rare Pokemon that deserves a spot in every Pop collection thanks to its transformation into a collectible figure.
Scorbunny
So far, we’ve seen Charmander, Cyndaquil, and Scorbunny. The success of Charizard has convinced me that I’m not the only person who enjoys a Fire-type starter. There’s cohesion between the various Pokemon endeavors, but it takes time for Funko to make Pop! figures of the most popular new characters. Scorbunny is one of the newest ones to get the Pop treatment because of this, despite being introduced in Sword & Shield. Get the fire rabbit before more Pokemon of the Galar and Paldea types appear and start stealing your time and money.
Eeveelution Funko Pop Collection
This Eeveelution set is perfect for anyone looking for a jumping-off point for their Pokemon Funko Pop collection. It gives you a head start on your collection with four figures, all pairing well with one another. There’s no need to worry that your first few figures will look out of place on the shelf because they’re all the same. To be honest, I’d be surprised if anyone who bought this set didn’t also want the other Eeveelution Funko Pop figures.
Lapras (Jumbo)
I believed this as a kid while playing Pokemon Blue, and it is what I believe now. Not enough people appreciate Lapras. That’s why I ranked the surfing Pokemon among the best Pop figures in the entire series. The giant version of Lapras’ Pop is my favorite, and I’ve gone one better and chosen it. If anyone does buy it and display it alongside their other figures, Lapras will be the largest of them all. Since Lapras is one of the largest Pokemon, it makes sense. If you’d rather have a smaller Lapras Pop, we have those, too.
Munchlax
When the second generation of Pokemon was released, I was completely blown away by so many things. I had a hundred more creatures to learn about, and one of the most exciting things about that expansion was discovering that some of my favorite species had infant forms that I hadn’t previously known about. The introduction of Munchlax suggests that it took a few more generations to perfect the baby Pokemon formula. If you’re only going to buy one Pop, make it this one because it’s only nine dollars. However, if you’re looking for more baby Pop figures after purchasing Munchlax, you can also purchase a Pichu figure. This serves as a fair warning.
Bulbasaur
The top Pokemon in the Pokedex has never looked better, and now I can’t imagine my Pokemon collection being complete without it!
If you take care of your Funko Pop figures, they should appreciate over time. The passage of time should increase the value of even the most common of these items, though rare and limited edition figures will rise in value much faster.
